ASGPRSCANNING & LOCATING

GPR Scanning

Non-destructive scanning to investigate buried services, underground features and concealed structures.

See the ground without digging it.

Ground penetrating radar sends radio pulses into the ground and records reflections from changes in material. Pipes, conduits, voids and buried structures can show up as distinctive reflections.

GPR can help identify metallic and non-metallic targets that traditional locators may miss, such as plastic water pipes, PVC conduit and concrete stormwater, depending on site conditions.

Typical uses

  • Buried services of mixed materials
  • Unknown or unmapped infrastructure
  • Voids, tanks and underground features
  • Slab-on-ground and pavement investigations
  • Supporting site investigations
  • Locating potential service conflicts

Non-metallic targets

PVC, polyethylene and concrete pipes don't carry a locatable signal. GPR can detect them as reflections when ground conditions allow.

Unknown features

Old footings, tanks, voids and abandoned services can be flagged as targets for caution before excavation begins.

Grid and line scanning

Scans along and across a work area to build a clearer picture of where detectable targets run.

Stormwater line across a driveway to an existing pit

The risk

The new stormwater line must cut through a concrete driveway where a gate motor cable and water service are likely to run.

What ASGPR does

Scan the driveway slab and sub-grade, locate the existing pit outlet, and trace detectable services along the proposed alignment.

What you get

A marked-out corridor, flagged conflicts, and a sketch plan your plumber can work from.

FAQs

Common questions.

How deep can GPR see?

It depends heavily on the ground. Dry sandy soils allow deeper penetration; wet or clay-rich soils limit it significantly. We'll discuss realistic expectations for your site.

Does GPR replace electromagnetic locating?

No. They work best together. Electromagnetic locators trace conductive services; GPR adds the ability to detect some non-metallic targets.
